Five Reasons Why Online Dating is Disastrous

Introduction

In 2023, Tinder has become mediocre for most of Gen Z, not to mention the billions of millennials across the globe. Online dating is not only stale for men but also for women. Moreover there is a perceived dating imbalance between both genders which is untrue.

There’s clearly an issue with the way dating apps work. For example, a key study found that marriages originating from the internet were more likely to fail than those that did not. Similarly, another study mentioned in a top Canadian newspaper confirmed the association between online dating and increased levels of depression.

In this blog post, I detail my top five reasons why online dating sucks so much, which has been supported by several prominent sources. I hope you understand my reasoning and come to your senses when using those silly online dating apps!

1. Online dating services are there to make a profit

I believe this is obvious, but online dating services are there to make a profit ahead of everything else. This often means you have to pay for all the best features to even have a chance at converting a match into a date. However, there’s no guarantee that paying for any feature will work. Factors such as personality and location can have a huge impact and can’t be changed easily.

2. It’s all about looks stupid!

No, your lengthy online bio won’t make any difference when compared with your photos. Dating apps are very appearance driven which often means users have to put a fake version of themselves out there to get a match. Consequently, we never get a good impression of the person we’ve matched with when compared with seeing them in real life. Many dating apps are just a cesspit of fake reality gone mad!

3. You will get rejected a lot!

Even with the best bio and great-looking photos, you will face rejection most of the time. It’s important to not take those rejections personally as there could be any number of reasons why you were rejected. Bearing this in mind, rejection still affects most of us out there, especially over a period of time! The pain of social rejection still applies to online dating as any other occasion.

4. You have to send the right message to your match

This is quite a big problem with online dating and not one that will go away soon. While you don’t want to be creep, you always have to send the right messages to get a response. Even so, there are many other reasons why a match might not respond. For example, your match may not know how to respond or they could be testing the waters. I think these issues are down to the text format of dating more than anything!

5. There are too many people to choose from!

The overabundance of choice in online dating is killing the game, and it’s leading to people being disposable. If you don’t quite connect on your first few messages or on your first date, forget it. This has ultimately led to people acting unnaturally to succeed on dating apps and in the real world. This is clearly contributing to the toxic world of online dating the most.

Conclusion

Now that you have seen my reasoning, you can see why online dating is pointless. I still use dating apps myself but have limited my usage over the last few months. I just think the whole online dating world is pretty bleak and needs changing.
